A Variety From Lucky 13 Lacquers

As I mentioned earlier, I recently got my haul from Lucky 13 Lacquers so I present some of the manicures that I've had over the last few weeks. Due to my violin lessons, I can't really grow my nails out anymore which makes me a bit sad since there isn't a lot of surface area to work with. However, violin lessons are going well and nail polishes are fun to work with. With that being said, here are some of the manicures!

"Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey" is one of my favourites (even though I couldn't quite get a shot of the moons and stars in this lacquer). I love the deep blue hues and it works great on it's own. To temper down the shine I decided to toss on a coat of "Faerie Wings" which is a flakie nail polish (you can't really see it as it was hard to capture but it is gorgeous and happens to be the bottle I am holding in the picture above). I decided to throw on two coats of "Hey, Who Turned Out the Lights?" but was sadly unable to get a picture of it glowing. It was awesome.

I decided to go with a very light gray base for this manicure as it was a homage to Sally. Truth be told I should have gone with a slightly darker gray but lesson learned. Overall, I think it is a great representation of Sally since it executes her dress well.

This is one of my favourites because every time I looked at it, I feel like I found new colours in Zelda. The purple square glitter matched the Sinful Colors perfectly so it kind of faded away except for moments in the sun where I'd get this bright purple. The gold glitter was predominant but I had completely forgotten about the rainbow flecks which meant that when I was in the sun I could see so many different hints (red, especially) which made it so much fun.

Oh Yes! is inspired by the Tenth Doctor's pinstripe suit; it's a brown jelly base with blue glitters (bars and squares). Zoya's Ibiza is a bit on the darker side so it was harder to capture the awesomeness that is this nail polish especially since the layering made it come off as dark brown. I tried to take two shots of it so there's a slight close up below.

Two coats of Urban Outfitters "Mystic" and
one coat of Lucky 13 Lacquers "Link."

I recently got the UO Mystic in a swap so pardon the thinness of it. It was a bit hard to work with -- while the flakies are great, they sometimes hinder this jelly. I do wish I threw on a third layer of it but I had a headache. Link looks fantastic pairs with this one; it's a clear base with emerald green, brown, gold, and blue glitters. Together they are great, even if the picture is not flattering (again, I blame the headache). 

Latest Lucky 13 Lacquer Haul

Lucky 13 Lacquer has quickly become one of my favourite nail polish brands (let the whopping 15 bottles that I own speak for itself).I actually wasn't a huge glitter fan, however I am a fan of themed nail polish. So when the Last of the Time Lords series came out, I just had to. I sadly don't have any swatches yet, but you can be on the lookout for these nail polishes making random appearances in future makeup reviews.

This is a bit of the following series: Last of the Time Lords, Hylian Hero, and Aperture Labs. From left to right is the following:

• Oh Yes!: Inspired by the 10th Doctor's pinstripe suit and he just happens to be my favourite. This is a brown jelly with blue glitter.
• Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey: This is when Ten attempts to explain time travel. It's my absolute favourite and I have yet to get a good picture of it (I've used it twice now). It's a blue jelly with blue glitters, moons, and stars.
• A 51st Century Guy: Inspired by Captain Jack Harkness, this one is clear with black, white, and red heart shaped glitters.
• Zelda: Described as a "square purple with small purple and gold and tiny rainbow flecks."
• Companion Cube: Inspired by the infamous companion cube (IJ: NOT THE GAME CUBE) this one is a gray jelly with pink, silver, and pink heart shaped glitters."
• Hey, Who Turned Out the Lights?: IT GLOWS IN THE DARK. Oh, its a top coat.

During my second go, I decided to try something from the Nightmare series, another from Hylian Hero, and a One-Off so again, from left to right:

• Ragdoll: A mix of turquoise, yellow, lavender, gunmetal, and brown glitters.
• Link: Green, brown, gold, and blue glitter.
• Faerie Wings: "Purple flakies with hints of blue, green, and yellow iridescence." (As per the website).

I'm a huge fan of Lucky 13 Lacquers and at $8 per bottle you can't go wrong; the owner has been continually attentive and responsive to her customers so I've always received phenomenal service. Even if glitters aren't your thing, please give this shop a try. 

Hues of Aquaria

I figured that while I was waiting on my "Last of the Time Lords" order from Lucky 13 Lacquer that I'd give the blend Aquaria a shot. Of the Humble Indie Bundle, there's just a few I haven't tried and Aquaria was one of them (the others being Cosmos and Machinarium. Aquaria is described by Lucky 13 Lacquers as "a light blue jelly base, fine copper square, and medium teal square glitters."

While Lucky 13 Lacquers has a lot of lovely nail polishes up, the Humble Indie Bundle nail polishes only seems to be available when the actual Humble Indie Bundle (for charity) goes up since a portion of the proceeds goes to the charity.

Sinful Colors "Let Me Go" (322) is a silvery colour that morphs between metallic green and lavender. The hue of blue in Aquaria accentuates those hints of purple and really makes a strong light blue.

Jelly Sandwich: Two coats of Zoya Frida, two coats
of Aquaria, and one final coat of the Zoya Frida.

 Zoya Frida (ZP640)  combined with Aquaria is a gorgeous "jelly sandwich" blend which kind of reminds me of being near the water. I think it would make a great Bioshock background for nails.

I love the colour purple and for this blend, I like how that very light hints of blue in Aquaria accentuate the purple.

In this "mix" the hint of blue jelly and teal squares somewhat disappears into the green -- which isn't too bad but you will have to depend on the copper squares to come through a lot more.

Lucky 13 Lacquers are $8 a bottle however for this particular bottle, it is only sold in the HIB set. Both Sinful Colors and e.l.f. nail polishes costs ~$2. Zoya bottles costs $8.

More Halloween Manicures

Halloween is my favourite time of the year so I've been all about the simple manicures for this month (it is timed well with my latest nail polish haul). This week I did two and my boyfriend named the first one the "8-bit Lava" and the second is something I call "Halloween Night."

8-Bit Lava: Two coats of Sinful Colors Courtney Orange (30), two coats of Lucky 13 Lacquer Super Meat Boy, and one coat of Sinful Colors Black Crackle (1019). The Super Meat Boy nail polish has a red jelly base with small white square, and medium black hex glitter. The way the crackle dried exposes the white squares perfectly. At first I thought it looked like wood on a fire, but my boyfriend insists it has more of an 8-Bit Lava look -- hence the name.

This is the beginning of the Halloween Night manicure -- I wanted to test out sponging first. The base is two coats of China Glaze Bizarre Blurple (1137). I sponged on some of the Sinful Colors Courtney Orange (30) which didn't really show up so I decided to sponge on a bit of Milani Good Morning Sunshine (29). Overall, I loved the look of it and considered adding in stars but opted for another coat of nail polish instead.

I couldn't get a good shot of the end but I love the look of this one. The final coat is Lucky 13 Lacquer Cogs which is a light brown jelly with small copper square, medium gold, and large silver hex glitters. The copper squares look a bit orange in this manicure so it gives an interesting allusion to a night sky. (As I mentioned, the picture doesn't do it justice).

You can get Sinful Colors at Target or Walgreens and the normal bottles costs ~$2. The Sinful Colors crackle costs ~$4. The China Glaze usually retails for about ~$5 but this particular bottle was part of a set (and I got this bottle as part of a makeup swap). Lucky 13 Lacquers are available online for $10 for a bottle. (but this particular bottle was part of a limited edition set).

A Glittery Take of Trine

Normally I try my best to refrain from the manicure posts but every once in a while I get really excited about some colour combination and I can't help myself. Usually I try to say something about the nail polish but then I start rambling and... well, if you're a subscriber to this blog, then you know.

Anyhow, you might have noticed in the Cinderella posts that I had a new manicure so I wanted to highlight a bit about the nail polish I was wearing. I'm a sucker for nail polish and one of the things I have a weakness for is filling my collection with cheap nail polish. After finding out that Lucky 13 lacquer had created a Humble Indie Bundle (the namesake) set and planned to donate 15% of the proceeds, I had to give in. 

For those unfamiliar with the concepts at play, there are two. One is the  actual Humble Indie Bundle, which is where a bunch of indie games are bundled and sold for whatever price you want to pay and you decide how you want the money split up. Now about the nail polish, it's by Kyoti who runs a nail polish blog and has her own lineup of polishes which are named Lucky 13 Lacquer. Basically, it's nerd nail polish which is awesome.

The picture above was a few hours after I completed the manicure and my feeble attempts to try to capture all the magnificent glitter in it. It's two coats of Lucky 13 Lacquer Trine over Sinful Colours Savage (950) and e.l.f. Royal Purple (no top coat). The pictures of my holding the Saint Valentine's Cream (which is hella old school) is 3 days after the intial manicure (which is amazing for me since manicures don't last more than 2 days tops for me).

Anyhow, I hope you take a look at the Trine colour or rather all of Lucky 13 Lacquer if you get the chance. The Trine is a "medium dark purple jelly base, small sky blue, and medium gold hex glitters" -- which basically means that it complements the blues and purples wonderfully.

Nail Polish Haul

If you saw my string of posts about the Sephora and Cinderella line, then you'll notice a severe lack of swatches. Well part of that comes from the fact that two of my makeup nail polish orders arrived at the same time and some nail polishes that I was coveting finally arrived in my local drugstore. You see, my favourite holiday is Halloween so I've been holding out for the treats that will be released in October -- but my other love is Disney and the two just happened to occur at the same time. So here's a chance to look at my nail polish hauls! 

In my own collection I have several bottles of black nail polish but it recently dawned on me that I didn't have an orange colour. Nor did I have a black crackle nail polish. So on one of my "routine" checks of Walgreens, I found that some of the Halloween nail polishes were finally in stock!

From left to right I grabbed the Black Crackle (1019), Pumpkin Spice (1135), Let's Talk (929), and Courtney Orange (30). The crackle nail polish retails for about $3.99 and the rest go for $1.99. Even though I have a lot of purples, I didn't have that hue so I just had to. I am excited to see what kind of combinations I'll come up with with just these four alone. As usual though, I probably won't be posting that much about manicures, so rest your troubled soul if you were worried that I'd change directions about the blog. ;)

While in Walgreens, they finally got the Revlon Moon Candy nail polishes in stock which I've been stalking since release. Almost every store nearby that had them were immediately sold out of my favourite colours and finally I had my moment. The first two are mine and the last two I bought for a friend (but let me take a quick picture of it -- I'm looking forward to seeing her manicure with the two).

From left to right is Orbit (280), Galactic (210) and for my friend is Eclipse (240), and Satellite (230). They retail for just under $10 each which seems a little bit on the high side (do keep in mind that they are 0.26 Fl. Oz. which makes them less then your standard nail polish bottle) but honestly, they are absolutely gorgeous and so very much worth it. I did end up using the Galactic (pictured at the very bottom of this post) after I wrote my Cinderella posts and I'm very much happy with their look. I'm new to flakies and I have to admit, I'm incredibly impressed (and also gullible since these polishes have a space theme -- this is strangely similar to how I got suckered into Angry Birds Space).

It terms of arrivals, the Cinderella Sephora nail polish arrived a few hours after my order from Lucky 13 Lacquers which made me an incredibly happy person. Lucky 13 Lacquers is an indie line created by Kyoti who blogs about nail polishes. She created  a Humble Indie Inspired Bundle, which took 6 indie games and turned them into gorgeous glitter nail polish. She is also donating 15% of the proceeds going to the actual Humble Indie Bundle. After careful thought (of all of 2 minutes), I decided to buy it especially since I played about half of those games and loved it. Plus with part of the proceeds going toward a good cause and supporting an indie nail polish maker, I couldn't quite resist.

As usual, I'm super excited to be posting about all of these items but it's probably going to take me a bit of time to finally swatch it all. But I can't wait!
